Upcoming Author Events in Honor of National Diabetes Awareness Month

In honor of National Diabetes Awareness Month, Ellie will be reading and signing her book, Type One Diabetes A-Z, around the Ozarks.  Please join us if you can. We love to connect with other T1D families and to encourage all young people to support someone who is newly diagnosed, to build resilience for whatever unique challenges they’re facing, and to share their stories and experiences.

Ellie is always thrilled to share her book, TYPE ONE DIABETES A-Z, with young readers and to increase awareness of T1D, an autoimmune disease that requires 24/7 management.

Type One Diabetes A-Z is a primer for young readers. It promotes understanding of a complex condition and inspires and empowers children recently diagnosed. When you have a potentially confusing subject, it helps to break it down by the ABCs—a very good place to start. We discovered that this alphabet book also helps friends, teachers, extended family, and caregivers who want to support a child with T1D by better understanding the basics of care.

We’re always grateful when libraries add TYPE ONE DIABETES A-Z to their shelves, ensuring that info about T1D reaches many hands, homes, and hearts. The ripple effect is exciting and encouraging. Our thanks to the Monett Library for hosting Ellie and providing access to information and resources. We can’t wait to visit your beautiful new facility.

Ellie is also thrilled to be appearing at our local Barnes & Noble. She grew up attending countless story times and monthly American Girl events at this bookstore. Their events promote reading, champion local authors, and create wonderful learning celebrations for readers of all ages. Barnes & Noble did so much to encourage and inspire Ellie; it’s a full circle moment for her to have an author event at the store where she made so many happy memories.

Thank you for helping us mark National Diabetes Awareness Month and letting us bring attention to T1D. We hope to see you!

About Type One Diabetes (T1D)

Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is an autoimmune disease in which insulin-producing beta cells in the pancreas are mistakenly destroyed by the body’s immune system. T1D seems to have a genetic component. It occurs in children and adults. Its causes are not fully known, and there is currently no cure. People with T1D are dependent on injected or pumped insulin to survive.
