Raising Awareness of T1D:

Type One Diabetes A-Z

Ellie’s book, Type One Diabetes A-Z, is an alphabet book for young readers. It promotes understanding of a complex, chronic condition and helps empower children recently diagnosed with type one diabetes (T1D).

We discovered from feedback, reader reviews, and events at libraries, schools, and bookstores that Ellie’s primer also helps friends, teachers, extended family, and caregivers who want to support a child with T1D.

Ellie wrote Type One Diabetes A-Z for children whose lives are upended by T1D, but we hope the book inspires us all to look out for each other, develop resilience, express empathy and solidarity, and share our stories.

We spend a lot of time connecting with other T1D families. That’s important. And, it’s also great to broaden our reach into the community and share the message of living with T1D (an autoimmune disease) with a bigger audience to correct misconceptions and improve understanding.

Connecting with People and Inspiring Young Writers:

Each young person has experiences and insights to share and creativity to spare. Meeting a young author encourages kids to not only express themselves but to think of themselves as writers.

In addition to reading Type One Diabetes A-Z, Ellie loves answering questions, having conversations with readers, learning from others, sharing what inspires her, and hearing about other people’s stories.

See you this fall!
