We all want diabetes to be easy. A lot of people think that you just eat something, count the carbs, and dose the right amount of insulin based on your ratios. If only! It’s not that simple. There are dozens of other factors.
Here are just 22 (of many) factors impacting blood glucose:
- Illness
- Stress
- Pain
- Dehydration
- Exercise
- Not being physically active
- Menstrual Period
- Puberty
- Skipping or delaying meals
- Caffeine
- Too little sleep
- Dawn phenomenon
- Sunburn
- Celiac disease
- Allergies
- Infusion set or site issues
- Scar tissue/lipodystrophy
- Carbohydrate type
- Medication (dose, timing, interactions)
- Time of day
- Outside temperature
- Insulin (temperature and/or expiration date)
