Finding and Fulfilling Your Purpose

Finding and Fulfilling Your Purpose

Everyone has a story to tell, a lesson to teach, and wisdom to share. Our church, Schweitzer United Methodist Church, has showcased a story (in progress) each week of 2020. The series, 52 stories, started pre-COVID, and it has helped us forge and sustain meaningful connections. This is Ellie, and this is just the beginning of her story…

When stresses and dangers bear down on us, God is comfort and strength. God is hope over fear. We’re sharing some God moments and blessings:

  • God works through people. We felt His presence in the extraordinary, heavenly kindness of EMTs who not only transported Ellie to Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City but wrapped her in warm blankets and played Christmas carols during the ambulance ride to soothe her. Endocrinologists and scientists working on new therapies are using their extraordinary talents and spiritual gifts to help treat people with diabetes.
  • God calls us to help each other. No one travels this road alone. People with diabetes are safer when those around them understand their struggles (and potential dangers), but isn’t that true of everyone? Empathy is powerful.
  • God takes what’s hard and uses it, transforming something that feels broken into a blessing. Only God can do that. All the energy, time, and discipline that it takes to manage diabetes at the start will eventually be channeled into something Ellie chooses. We can’t wait to see how Ellie fulfills her promise and purpose.
