Author Events Featuring Type One Diabetes A-Z

Please mark your calendars! Ellie will be reading and signing her book, Type One Diabetes A-Z, around the Ozarks and connecting with other kids with T1D. It’s gratifying to be a part of in-person events and to meet (and learn from) other families.

Type One Diabetes A-Z is a primer for young readers. It promotes understanding of a complex condition and inspires and empowers children recently diagnosed.  When you have a potentially confusing subject, it helps to break it down by the ABCs—a very good place to start. We discovered that this alphabet book also helps friends, teachers, extended family, and caregivers who want to support a child with type one diabetes (T1D) by better understanding the basics of care.

As Ellie shares her book, we see the appeal to not only people with T1D but to a larger audience of young writers. Ellie’s personal story and alphabet book encourage young readers and authors to take a closer look at how they develop resilience and express empathy. Type One Diabetes A-Z underscores the power of mentoring via a connection with another local author. (It was friend, fellow Springfieldian, and author Ethan Bryan who shared Ellie’s manuscript with his publisher. Read more about it in “A New Chapter: The Story of Ellie’s Book.”)

We hope to see you at an author event this summer! Learn a little about T1D, share your own story, tap into empathy and resilience (two underrated superpowers), or just say “hi.”
