We can’t think of a better way to mark National Diabetes Awareness Month than partnering with our local Barnes & Noble to raise funds for Tee 1 D Diabetes Foundation. Our thanks to KY3 for sharing how local businesses and organizations are supporting children and families with type one diabetes (T1D). It was a joy sharing Ellie’s alphabet book, TYPE ONE DIABETES A-Z, with kids, connecting with families, and raising money for a terrific organization. Many thanks!

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) – Ellie Rowe is becoming a name amongst families with kids who have Type One Diabetes.

A few years ago, Rowe wrote: “Type One Diabetes – A to Z.” The alphabet book helps its readers, mainly kids, understand the disease.

F is for fatigue. M is for meter. P is for pump.

On Saturday, Rowe partnered with the Tee 1 D Diabetes organization for a book fair and special reading of her book at Barnes & Noble. Tee 1 D Diabetes organization helps diabetic families in a multitude of ways through education, training, and finances.

Ozarks Life: Young author helping kids with diabetes

“So I wrote my book about Type One Diabetes as a primer for younger kids, because I didn’t really have a resource like that when I was newly diagnosed, and I wanted to make it easier for kids and their families when faced with this new way of life. You have to really pivot and stuff. I wanted to make things easier for families,” said Rowe.

As part of the fundraising event, 5% of purchases at Barnes & Noble went to Tee 1 D Diabetes.
